Scones

Aim: To look at different kitchen ingredients in scones and their effects

ou will be in groups of 3. Your group must have a group name.

You will each have a role for the first scone, then rotate roles for the next two.

1. Collector - Collects ingredients then writes label

2. Mixer - Mixes ingredients

3. Baker - Rolls mixture into scone shape

When one person in the group is doing their role the others will be writing their blog.

Your group will:

  Make 3 types of scone.

  Normal plus 2 others.
• You will make the scone, shape it on your plate, bring it up and place it on the oven tray with a clearly written label. The label must have Group Name and Scone Type.

  Make 3 recipes using the following quantities

Recipe:

• 1/2 cup Edmond standard flour

• 1 tsp Edmond baking powder  or 1 tsp baking soda

  2 tsp butter

  1/4 cup milk, approximately or 1/4 cup lemonade.

The recipes my group chose were:

1. Normal

2.Lemonade

3. .Lemonade with baking soda

The other two recipes were:

1. Name: lemonade

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup Edmond standard flour

• 1 tsp Edmond baking powder

2. Name: lemonade with no baking soda

Ingredients:

  

• 1/2 cup Edmond standard flour

  1 tsp  baking soda

  1/4 cup lemonade.

Materials:

1.½ cup of Edmond standers flour

2. 1 tsp Baking soda or baking powder

3. 2 tsp of butter

4. ¼ of lemonade or milk

5. A bowl

Process

Step 1: add the flour

Step 2: add some baking soda or baking powder

Step 3: add butter

Step 4: add lemonade or milk

Step 5: mix them up

Conclusion

When we did the taste test the first 2 were good

And the last was worse because it had no baking soda  we cooked them for 10 minutes at 200 degrees

Skittles

Petrie dish

Aim:  To separate colours by using the process of chromatography.

Materials: 
Petrie 
Wash
Skittles
Water

Process:

Step 1. Get and container with skittles.

Step 2. Put water in the container.

Step 3. Then let the skittles sit.

Step 4. Then you can eat then.

Step 5. Clean the container.

Step 6. Put the container away.

Findings: Write about what happened.

Reflection: What have I learnt from this experiment?

What did the colours do?
Did the colours mix together?
Why or why not?

Extension:

What is another experiment you could do using chromatography and how would you do it.

Dirty Water Experiment

Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

1.kidneys

Materials:

1.Bottle

2.  stone

3.sand

4.dirty water

5. filter paper

6. cup

7.craft knife

8. scissors

Process

Step 1

Cut a empty water bottle

Step 2

Put the top half upside down into the other half.

STEP 

Add layers of ,sand,stones,dirty water.

STEP 4

Get a cup of dirty water.

STEP 5

Pour the dirty water into the bottle.

Rainbow Paper

Materials

1. Filter paper

2. Container

3.liquid

4.pour

Process

Put a line across 2 cm from the top fold then at bottom but 1 cm. Put the black red and green dots along the 4 cm long cut in cup and filled the cup with some cold water just touching the paper

. Results colours race to the toe of the paper and the paper goes to a rainbow colour.

Step 1. Get a cup.

Step 2. Get a little pecs of paper.

Step 3. Get three felt pens.

Step 4. Get green, red and black.

Step 5. Draw three dots on the paper.

Step 6. Draw one dot each colour.

Step 7. Put the paper with the three dots in the cup.

Step 8. Just leave the paper siting in the cup.

Step 9. let the three colours mix a round the cup.

Crystals

Aim.To make Crystals

Process. Get the container put 8 tsp of salt sugar or borax and put half cup water in container stir Intel it is a saturated mixture then pick up pipe cleaner and peg the pipe cleaner and let sit in saturated mixture.

Borax

Materials

1.Borax 8 Tsp

2.Container

3.Water H20

4.Pipe Cleaners

5.Peg

Process. Get the container put 8 tsp of salt sugar or borax and put half cup water in container stir until it is a saturated mixture then pick up pipe cleaner and peg the pipe cleaner and let sit in saturated mixture.

Results: Borax was the successful experiment and had formed crystals around all the pipe cleaners.

Half a teaspoon of borax and half a cup of warm water did not work. Because it didn't get saturated no crystals formed.

Sugar

Materials

1. 8 tsp Sugar

2.Container

3.Water H20

4.Pipe cleaner

4.Peg

5.Tsp

Process. Get the container put 8 tsp of sugar and put half cup water in container stir Intel it is a saturated mixture then pick up pipe cleaner and peg the pipe cleaner and let sit in saturated mixture.

Results:Nothing happened with the experiment and no crystals were formed

3.Water H20 1/2 cup

4.Tsp

Process. Get the container put 8 tsp of salt sugar or borax and put half cup water in container stir Intel it is a saturated mixture then pick up pipe cleaner and peg the pipe cleaner and let sit in saturated mixture.

Results: Not much happened with this experiment the salt crystals it did not form any crystals at all.

Stop Motion Lego Cars

At art we are doing a stop motion about cars of Lego. A stop motion is when you take photo and you move the object a little bit each time. When you play all the photos one after another together it looks like a movie.

In my group their is me Jackson and James. We had to do a script. We did a police chase and one of the cars are black and the other is green.

Maui

In Literary we have been learning about the charter Maui. We have looked at the assimilates and different of Maui in different stories. I made an animation about the story. One of the stories was The fish of Maui and Maui slows the sun down. I found hard was putting all the shapes in places. I found the stories was easy.
